Inception

Here it is! My entry for the "Make One, Share One" contest being held over at this month. I've actually got my entry up with a day to spare!

Okay, so it took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to do for this contest. Everyone was coming up with these great re-creations of different artifacts from the Myst games, and I couldn't really think of any such things that were within my power to make! But I did have sculpey to work with, so I decided I'd sculpt a character.

But which character? The story's got so many good ones that it was nearly impossible to choose. Plus certain characters are not liked by everyone, and since this is going to eventually be a prize for someone entering a future contest, I wanted it to be someone who would be generally liked.

So I was like, "Atrus! Everybody likes Atrus!"
But then I remembered that Atrus has a beard and I didn't want to try sculpting facial hair just yet (I'm still a n00b!).
So then I was like, "Child Yeesha!"
But then I remembered that I didn't really like Yeesha all that much, even though she was sweet and all.
I started sculpting anyway, but I was having trouble with her hair. So I started changing her hair and my sculpture started to look more and more like a boy, and then it hit me and I was all like, "Child Atrus! It's the perfect solution!"

So here we have him, child Atrus (14-17?) from the time when he and his dad were still on \"living-in-the-same-house-with-each-other\" terms. Atrus has just written his first Age and named it "Inception", much against Gehn's taste, which runs more toward numbers than names. Haha! Good thing he wasn't around when it was time to name Atrus!

Anyway, I think calling this piece "Inception" works for the same reasons as in the book. On the one hand it's the name of the Age he is holding, and it also marks the fateful beginning of Atrus' lonnnng career of Age-writing.

So! Who wants to own this little sculpture? It will go to the winner of a mysterious future contest that will eventually be held by the Myst club.
